Binder

A collaboration with Kristen Merola published by Small Craft Advisory Press: "Artists Kris Merola and Tate Shaw created a virtual family photo archive and framed it within a fictional scholarly tome complete with fictional works cited page and printed page turns.The pages are contained within a binder with the possibility of reordering. The family pictured in the images is made up of people in the artists’ close circle of friends. The binder family references groups within communities of people that move away from their birthplaces and create familial like connections and relationships based on work, location, vocation, and geographical proximity."

Folder

Folder is a visual book with scale models next to representations ofimagined image architecture. The title comes from the idea of a folder on acomputer. The book imagines the possible connections between the picture files ina folder and has them combined in shapes that can be twisted, folded andknotted as if the images could be encountered architecturally.

The Placeholders Volume 3

Volume 3 of The Placeholders is an animation of Tokyo's Shibuya Crossing, the most pedestrian populated intersection in the world. Bursts of photographs made in other places animate the clothing of the walkers in Shibuya. It is multi-directional without an exclusive front or back, top or bottom.

God Bless This Circuitry

A collaboration with Andrew Sallee who contributes music, this book is a series of fictional episodes between a father and son who interrelate through the use of various machines. The story sections are each connected to found Christian tracts by circuit diagrams. As a whole it is structured as a protestant church service and designed like a car user's manual. Included is a CD of Andrew's ambient soundscape for listening while reading.

Ordinary Curtains

A visual short story collection with different found imagery montaged to set the tones of each. The images make metaphors of various kinds of performance. Its structured like a Vaudeville show with different acts following one after another. These are separated by stage "curtains" of different types of paper.

String Lessons

A set of five pamphlets that link to form a fiction that follows a violinist and violin teacher as she instructs three different students. Each booklet has its own distinctive design and imagery including drawings, paper cutout scannograms, sheet music montages, ultrasound waveforms, and 3-D body imaging wireframe graphics.
