Immersion: a Conversation

Essay and linked interviews with artists Emily McVarish, Jody Zellen, and Janet Zweig published in JAB33 (Journal of Artists’ Books), Spring 2013

From the introduction:

“Immersion relates to being enveloped by something, to involvement, to the idea of being engaged or absorbed in something—such as reading—and this maintained my interest because it is maybe difficult these days to become immersed in anything—like reading, again—when so many channels of media are competing for our attention…

.…this conversation was started in part out of an interest in establishing some ground for more critical inquiry into how artists relate books, installations, public art, and public space. In the discussion that follows there is a kind of continuum linking the book with site-specific public artworks, installations, online/interactive-based projects, and personal digital devices.”
