String Lessons combines four dialogues written by Rachel McNassor between a violin instructor and people she encounters throughout a day. Each dialogue is its own book with a different design and images. The set forms a quartet of sorts and includes a fifth conductor-like book. The reader is the performer putting the narrative together from these various different "instruments." Images in the book are made from drawings, found imagery, flatbed scanographs, and from 3-D full body scans.
